UPDATE / June 2020: I am reopening this service on a limited basis. I have virtual and in-home/business options available. Please let me know how I can best help you!
Do you have home projects that you feel like you are never going to get to?
Do you still have boxes that you haven’t unpacked from your move months or even years ago?
Do you find yourself spending extra time looking for something that you know you have, only to have to purchase it again?
Clutter is a time hijacker
The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) reports that on average we spend one year of our lives looking for lost items. That’s over 8,700 hours looking for lost or misplaced things! (Source) Disorganization in our homes creates this pandemonium that holds us back. It restricts us from having a clearer mind and a simpler lifestyle. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the physical chaos in your home. When your immediate surroundings are disorganized, chaotic, cluttered or messy it seeps into every other aspect of our lives, including our mind. Can you imagine what life would be like if you had a clearer mind and an easier lifestyle?
According to The National Soap and Detergent Association, (I swear it’s a real thing), eliminating clutter reduces housework by 40% in the average home. It also reduces the stress associated with a disorganized living space. So, having an organized, clutter-free home is a gateway for feeling more calm and clear-headed. [Source]
Ok, read that again. 40%! The typical American home is about 2500 square feet. On average it takes about 4-5 hours to clean that house. That is 1.6-2 hours extra EVERY WEEK.
$154 Billion Industry
More and more people are renting off-site storage facilities to accommodate excess belongings or the lack of storage in their homes. If you are one of those people you are contributing to an industry that is larger than the Hollywood film business… at about $154 BILLION! [Source] There are about 48,500 storage units in the United States, which is more than McDonald’s and Starbucks locations combined! [Source]
It’s hard to truly care about items that are not even housed in your home. Yet we have a hard time parting with those items for whatever reason. (We’ll dive into those reasons in another post.) If we set aside some time to organize, care for and enjoy the belongings we did have we would not need off-site storage. One in 11 American households rent a self-storage space and spend over $1,000 a year in rent. (Source)
What would you do with an extra $1000?
Create an enjoyable life
While these statistics are alarming, there is a solution, I promise.
My mother, who taught me everything about being organized, said time and time again,
There should be a place for everything, and everything should be in its place.
Do you have a place for everything you own and cherish? Is everything you own easily accessible? Do you know where everything is?
If you answered no to any of these questions, then it’s time to take back your home, to gain control of your life again and to set yourself up for an easier, more successful life.
I am here to help.
More Room For Joy
In order to have a more balanced life, we need to create more room for joy, literally and figuratively. In my post, Life Happens, I talk about how for many of the people everyday life is overwhelming. Getting through the next day or even the next hour is difficult. Feeling joy is what helps sustain us in more difficult times and enhances the good times. I truly believe that joy is the key to life balance, but we have to make room for it!
My true passion is transforming literal and figurative spaces from chaotic to functional. I have a family of 7, so I know how messy life can get. I get how days can run into a huge pile of chaos. I have been there where my surroundings shut me down and I feel as if I can’t even function. I understand all too well how it feels when you have those doors that you throw stuff behind and quickly shut them to try to keep it all in (or better yet – dishes in the oven, only to melt them later). I WAS that person. I also have figured out how to create spaces that are functional and flourishing.
Physical chaos exists because of an imbalance in our lives. It might be because of our busy distracting schedules, a lack of time, or just not knowing where to start. Creating an organized space invites more room for joy in your life. It will also increase your productivity and hands more time and money to you on a silver platter. What would you do with more time and money in your day to day life?
I completely understand how you might feel uneasy or embarrassed by having someone come into your personal space. I promise you, there is no judgment here. I totally get it and I am here to help you figure this out. The goal is to leave those feelings of chaos and overwhelm behind and get back to the life and lifestyle you want and deserve. Let’s make your space pleasing, nurturing, efficient and enjoyable.
